My particular interests in film, and in filmmaking, are in the area of

perception in the human mind. My studies, thus, have had to do with not only

biological structuring, aesthetic and compositional aspects of film and art, but

also how sociological, political, and historical perspectives influence people

in general. My exposure to formal film theory, to date, has only slightly

touched upon these issues in school and has been expanded by my own reading.

But this contact inspired me to try and see/read and make films much more

critically. Participating in the Paris program would be an opportunity to

clarify, refine, and develop my thoughts and ideas concerning film. I see this

as especially necessary in my own work, as meaning is often obscure (to others),

not by lack of thought, but by lack of tanglibility.

My studying is far from complete in any of the areas of cognition

and perception (auditory, visual, psychological, etc.) I feel I must

incorporate into my knowledge of film. My undergraduate degree will, hopefully,

reflect this study and research.  Graduate work looms a little out of my vision;

that is, I can not define it clearly. Along with countless others, I feel a

need to speak out about film, so I sometimes believe that I want to teach.

However, I have no delusions about the reality of the teaching situation and am

prepared to earn a living in some other capacity. What I do, and will continue

to do, is make films that incorporate my mind with others through the medium

of film.
